Hey all.

A quick summary of what preceded the problem:
1) On May 15th I installed the only game I have and everything was fine
2) I changed the game installation location from C:Xboxgames to an external drive G:Xboxgames without any problems.
3) I haven't played since May 15th

Yesterday the Xbox app won't open and the Gaming Services won't start.
So I can't install a game or start the one I had.

Errors :
-Xbox app :
ScreenShot_20250525113201.webp
(translation : "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again or click the error code for more information. Error code 0x80070424. Please try again."
Gaming Services service :
-ScreenShot_20250525113833.webp
(translation : Windows is unable to start the Gaming Services service on Local Computer. Error 87: The parameter is incorrect.)
I tried some solutions I found on the internet without success.
Any suggestions ?

Thanks.

When i run Xbox Gaming Repair Tool it gives an error 0x8000ffff when its try to fix the Gaming Service service.
All the other fixes work OK.
I read that is probably a sign-in to Xbox app issue. But i dont know how to try to resolve it , as Xbox app not starts.

Hi @Bug locker

Have you tried this?
  • Clear the Microsoft Store cache by pressing Windows Key + R to launch Run, entering wsreset.exe and hitting Enter.

This clears the cache and restores application and account settings to default.

In the Services applet (services.msc) do the any of the XBOX Live services show anything untoward? Other than that, I'm out of ideas as you seem to have tried the usual fixes that should've solved the issue.

Update.

After 5 days of searching , at least i found the cause of the problem.
I search for solution at internet search , Xbox MS's support , Xbox MS community , here.
There are no solution for me or other user with the same problem.

Some data to understand the cause :
1) Before about 4 months , i closed my Microsoft email account and i replaced with the new one.
So , there is no profile at Microsoft or Xbox.com with the old email.

2) I have 2 laptops : 1 old that i havent used for about 2 years and use it yestersay in order to solve the issue.
1 new i use it every day , thats the one which i see the issue

3) When i install the Xbox from the store i see no info about the issue except the prefered errors.
But i found somewhere at the internert the Xbox installer .exe file. (XboxInstaller.exe)
Whith that when i do the install i took an error "Your account at MS store and Xbox are different , cant login".
It offers some button to resolve the issue , no one works.
I had mentioned the issue of the 2 emails in the chat with Xbox support, but they didn’t offer me any solution.
They saw that only the new email exists and therefore "everything was correct."

4) Yesterday , i open the old laptop to check the issue there :
-I was sign in at MS account , MS store , Xbox with my old email.
-I sign out from all
-I restarted
-I login at all with my new email/account
-Xbox app works 100% ok !

In real i cant play games at old laptop because of the its low hardware configuration (eg. 1600x900 , NVIDIA 940M , not NVME , low disk space)

So the cause is about the 2 MS accounts and email.
The issue still persists at the new laptop.
The same time the old still do "major aupdates" via Window Update.
I m waiting to update and i try some possible steps to resolve it (sign out from all from the old laptop).
So if there is some suggestions with the new data i would happy to hear these.
If i got news i 'll post it here directly to info and stop search for solutions.
At the same time , the users with the same issue , can check this cause.

Thanks.

Solved.

1) I had 2 disk image backups, from October and December 2024, which only had only my old email account and Microsoft account.
2) I restored from December and i transfer my settings (e.g tweaks) to the old image. I lost few settings. I created a new user account with the new email/account.
3) I made the old account a local simple user, and after I copied and linked the settings and the user name and folder.
4) I deleted the old user account. That was it, it was resolved.

Conclusion: Before changing your email or Microsoft account, keep a system backup.
